GAIL CAMMARATA
Artist Statement
As a photographer, to know that my images capture moments in time that otherwise perhaps would never have been seen is immeasurably intriguing and satisfying. And to experience the variety and ever-changing moods of New England landscapes and seascapes in terms of their textures, shapes, spatial designs, and especially their colors, is endlessly fascinating to me.
My expression of these multi-dimensional qualities is shown through dramatic composition, soft focus for ethereal moods, as well as bold light and inspiring hues of colors like blue, indigo and violet. I am driven by a desire to illuminate the magnificence of our natural vistas and by my anticipation of heartfelt connections to my images.
From behind the lens I’ve come to recognize and appreciate each landscape and seascape as a living and breathing organism - as an extension of all of us. And this relationship for me only deepens the importance of taking the utmost care and necessary steps to preserve their present as well as to strengthen their future.
Biography
It’s only during the past several years that a desire for creative self-expression through photography has been in the forefront of my journey through life. And this newfound passion has enraptured my heart and soul.

In thinking back through the years though, it’s probably always been there as evidenced by this early photograph of me (lower left) aiming a Kodak brownie camera back at my photographer. Somehow though, these creative energies ended up buried beneath a myriad of more staid responsibilities and health-related career paths.
Through my nature, entrepreneurial spirit, and education, which includes a Bachelor's in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a Master's in Public Health from UCLA, I've developed a love and concern for our landscapes, shorelines, and the health of our environment. Landscape photography and fine art photography are a superb enmeshment of my knowledge of the sciences coupled with my desire to highlight and promote the beauty and significance of our natural surroundings.
My education and skills in digital photography are from the Rhode Island School of Design, where I continue to take continuing education classes. In photography, as in any art form, there's always so much more to learn
and so much further to grow. My ultimate goal is to bridge my vision of each scene before me with its expression in print so they become like a masterfully choreographed dance.
